In the lawsuit by NCAA athletes to share in revenue from products bearing their names, images, and likeness, the court ruled that players do have rights to their names, images, and likenesses. The NCAA is appealing the ruling.
In the Raiderettes lawsuit for unpaid minimum wages, the NFL’s defense will apparently be that it is not subject to California labor laws.
Regarding the NLRB’s ruling that Northwestern University’s football players are employees, those supporting and opposing this ruling are preparing appellate briefs.
Finally, 13 states have asked the US Supreme Court to review California’s law banning on the sale of foie gras, although the 13 states’ interest in overturning the ban may be more related to their interest in maintaining their beef, pork, and poultry industries.
